A Healing Crisis....What is it?

Not all Reiki Treatments are filled with rainbows and butterflies. Sure, we love those kinds of sessions; the ones that bring us profound peace and assurance that all is well, the ones that alleviate the pain and symptoms, filling us with clarity and grounding, balancing us, fostering that beautiful connection with our essence and Higher Self.

And then...there are the treatments that are actually uncomfortable and uneasy. These sessions only happen approximately 3-5 percent of the time, yet are crucial as they implement concrete and lasting beneficial results. The times these treatments occur is when Reiki discovers blocked energy rooted in something traumatic that has happened to a person or abuse they underwent. As Reiki works to surface and remove these energetic blocks, they can temporarily re-experience the trauma as it is being purged from their systems. This is what is called a Healing Crisis and it can happen when a person receives complementary & alternative medicine like Reiki. Similar to EMDR therapy, which focuses on the traumatic memory itself. What I have noticed throughout the years is that these treatments help a person breakthrough the trauma/abuse to the other side where freedom and liberation from the trauma/abuse is found and experienced.

Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung's philosophic quote, "What you resist, persists," captures the idea that fighting your thoughts, feelings and shadow simply gives them power. When we hyper-focus on feelings such as anxiety, fear and grief it causes them to linger and even grow. As if we are watering weeds instead of the flowers in our lives.

These rare and uncomfortable treatments are some of the most important ones we will ever receive. Rest assured, Reiki will never push us past our healing limit, although it is at this threshold where the positive life-changing results manifest and last.
